starbucks on saturday

today i went to starbucks to get coffee.  this is unusual for me on a saturday morning because typically i view a triple venti skinny latte with cinnamon (the real stuff, not that horribly syrupy shit that makes me sick) as a treat or relief during the week, i.e. i make a starbucks run when i MUST GET OUT OF THAT BUILDING.  usually, it helps me survive.  (seriously, yall, i like my job, but sometimes - and i'm sure everyone feels like this - those walls feel very tight and confining and on those days i NEVER feel guilty for using my planning period to run around in the fresh air...)

but this morning i have been up and running, so i decided to swing by.  i got my drink and actually remembered to read the quote on the side.  it is one of the best i have ever read off of a cup and it may, just may, be the best representation of my life philosophy.  i may have to steal it for a future resume or job application.  do you think it would be looked upon poorly to quote a starbucks cup when trying to get a new job?

THE reason i am up and going today is that i got a call from haverty's at 8:30 that they would be at my door in 30 minutes . . . and they were!!!  so i've gots a new bed.  now i am feeling quite motivated to hang up all of the stuff on the walls in my place.  you know, all of that stuff i've had for like a year that is still just leaning up against furniture?  yep.  that stuff.  maybe by the end of the weekend it will look like i live here again.

not that you REALLY care, but here is my bed . . . and it is MADE.

here is the foot of my bed.  i don't quite know why.

and here is what my bed will look like on a regular basis.

lazy saturday

blogger hates me today. i have tried to post this several times and in several different ways. each time i do, the format of my entire page gets screwed up. boo.

so. the point i was trying to make is that for those of you who care to read it, i FINALLY updated the nerdy book blog. click on the link at the side to check it out.

also. my dad was here this morning after picking up his new car down here in dfw. this was our fun little joy ride this morning with lucy in tow.

that song in my head

i have been singing show tunes all day long. i borrowed a friend's wicked soundtrack earlier this week and started listening to it early this morning . . . that morphed to the following list of tunage throughout the day.
  • on my own - les mis
  • the rose - the rose
  • maybe - annie (forget any other song from this show . . . THIS is the best one!)
  • glory - rent
  • wind beneath my wings - beaches
  • part of your world - the little mermaid
  • little drop of rain - les mis
  • popular - wicked
  • defying gravity - wicked
. . . and so many more.  oooh.  now that i'm looking at that list, it looks like a pretty good iPod playlist.  i also just got an image of me singing along with said playlist at the top of my lungs at the gym.

and, in reference to my previous post . . .

 . . . i present hunter, charlie, and lucy.

and, p.s. - he may not be my favorite person, but i'll admit i am pretty impressed by our prez with this incident.  but, i'm even more impressed by the people of greensburg.  how awesome are they?

Lupinus subcarnosus

i. am. a. nerd.

cody and i decided to go on a bluebonnet hunt yesterday. while we thought the weather was perfect, we were quickly corrected by the lady working at the ennis visitors' center. after she told us "i know it's april, cuz i'm workin' on a saturday," she gave us a quick botany lesson. apparently, the bluebonnets need a little more heat than what we've had here lately. the warmer weather makes them "pop!" (i guess that's why my parents saw bluebonnets before i did while they were down at big bend 2 weeks ago.) anyway, EVC lady did direct us out west of town a little, off of highway 34 to a park just off the lake where there was a small patch.

(sidenote - how much fun would it be to have the job of driving around texas figuring out where the wildflowers had bloomed?)

for those of you not from around here, lemme fill ya in. people in texas go CRAZY for the bluebonnets . . . especially if they are the parents of young children or are engaged. photo ops galore. since cody and i are neither of those things mentioned above, we have never had the chance to go crawl around in a field and take pictures. until yesterday. and gracious cody even let me bring the pup on our road trip. lucy was WAY more interested in the lake and the dead fish carcus that she found, but for a few minutes she did let us take a some pictures of her.

Here is a view of the little patch we found.

Apparently, a lake is way more interesting that a bunch of blue flowers.

Yep. She found a dead creature and decided to roll in the grass near it.
My dog is gross.

There was no real posing or listening to be had today.
What did I expect?

We were OUTSIDE!!! WITHOUT A LEASH!!!

Finally. She listens.
